* How many points do you earn for purchases? You will usually be offered 1 point for every dollar you spend. However, some cards give you double or triple points for purchases at gas stations, drug stores, or grocery stores.
* How many points are needed to get a free round trip ticket? Some cards will require you get 75,000 points, while others will give you a free flight for as little as 25,000 points. Make sure you know how many points are needed for each card you look at.
* Do the points expire? Most cards will require you use your card at least once every couple years in order to keep your points. This is a very easy task, but make sure you know what the rules are about expiration for your card.
There are several other factors to look at when looking at a card. Is there an annual fee? Is there a limit on how many points you can earn per year? Is there a low introductory rate on the card?
